Members of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) on Thursday, overwhelmingly, gave Mr Stanley Nii Adjiri Blankson, the nod to become the new Chief Executive of AMA.

Nii Adjiri Blankson who was the only nominee of the President for the elections, polled 78 per cent of the total votes cast to succeed, Mr Solomon Adjei Darko who was relieved of his post by the President early this year.

The election, which was supervised by members of the Electoral Commission, saw 102 of the assembly members casting their votes. A total 80 polled for Nii Adjiri Blankson, whilst 22 of the members voted against him.

The elections was preceded by drumming and dancing from cultural troops, members of the Commonwealth Hall of the University of Ghana and other musical groups on the premises of the assembly.

Nii Adjiri Blankson in his acceptance speech said the city has a lot of problems and it would need the collective efforts of all to tackle it.

He mentioned indiscipline, low revenue collection and filth as the major problems facing the city and added that these problems would be given all the needed attention to make Accra, a world-class city. The Chief Executive called on members of the assembly to put any form of political affiliation behind and work towards achieving their targets.

Nii Adjiri Blankson said the task ahead of the assembly is a daunting one and it will need the collaborative efforts of all to achieve that. He stated that his administration would develop and consolidate a strong relationship with chiefs in the Metropolis in order to improve the image of the Ga Traditional Council.

Sheikh Ibrahim Cudjoe Quaye Greater Accra Regional Minister who also acted as the Chief Executive of the AMA, urged all to wake up to redeem the image of the city which has been bedevilled with series of problems. He expressed confidence in the ability of the newly elected Chief Executive to succeed adding "the man is discipline, committed and dedicated".

Sheikh Quaye therefore called on all assembly members to offer him the needed support to carry out his duties.
