The former District Chief Executive of Ejisu, in the Ashanti Region, Yamoah Afrifa Ponkoh has debunked claims by the Electricity Company of Ghana, that Monday's blackout was as a result of some technical difficulties. He said any blackouts that occurs these days should not be blamed on any technical malfunctions, as new term for the outages is 'Dumsor.'

According to him, since 'Dumsor' was used to refer to any type of blackout during the Mahama administration; be it load shedding or random faults in the distribution, the same term should be applied now, under the Akufo-Addo administration.

According to a Peace FM report, the former DCE refuted the claims by the ECG, stating they should admit that Dumsor has returned, especially since during the NDC's tenure, the blackouts were not called 'technical difficulties.'

"How different is this Dumsor from the one which happened our time? Are they trying to be sycophants? All I want is to wake up every day to see light in my house and if today the light goes off, you say it is not Dumsor. Under NPP, if the light goes off, it is not Dumsor; what is ECG telling us? Whether they like it or not, Dumsor is back and it is very severe," he said. Mr. Ponkoh's comments follow the blackout that hit several parts of the country on Monday night, after a full day of rain.

The break in power supply was reportedly due to to a major shortfall in power generation in the Western Power Enclave (Aboadze, Western region). Monday's blackout is the second to affect the country in the last two months.
