Aduana Stars had not lost an African game on home soil in seven years but on Sunday that record was destroyed by ASEC Mimosas who won 2-0.
The club had been undefeated on home turf since 2011 against WAC (winning 1-0) and continued that home invincibility this season as they intended to protect the record at stake but ASEC had other ideas.
ASEC – who had just five substitutes on the bench- became the first ever side to defeat Aduana Stars at the Nana Agyeman Badu Park in all Africa competitions with an unquestionable victory.
The defeat installs Aduana at the bottom of the group with ASEC now in third place with six points.
Striker Boubaca Soumana came close to putting the home side ahead from close range but goalkeeper Aboubakar Bamba diverted his effort for a corner before the charges of Amani Yao started to run riot.
Number-eight shirted Gbagnon Badie scored in the 26th minute from the spot before Ta Bi Willy Braciano increased the tally in the 35th with an incredible dink as the Ivorian champions gave debutant starting goalkeeper Gordon Yeboah a torrid time.
Aduana Stars were without key strikers Yahaya Mohammed and Bright Adjei so did ASEC play without their biggest star Amed Toure – injured.
Kenichi Yatsuhashi replaced influential Elvis Opoku – quiet on the day – by Abu Sadiq but the Ogya side failed to bounce back in a shocking performance.
In the other group game of concern AS Vita comfortably beat Raja Casablanca 2-0 in Kinshasa to go top of the standings with ten points as the Moroccan club drops to second place on eight points.
Kenichi and his team travel to Morocco next as visitors of Raja Casablanca on the last day of the Confederation Cup group stage.
