Adviser wants six-month project defects liability period revised

Metropolitan, Municipal and District assemblies have been advised to take a critical look at the six months’ project defects liability period and revise it upward to avoid a possible double spending of the Ghanaian tax payers’ money on a particular project.

Ms Anita Benassi, a Development Advisor, German International Development Cooperation (GIZ) who gave the advice during a public forum on procurement process, said six months was too short to be able to assess the real quality of a particular project.

Ms Benassi proposed that the six months period be reviewed to cover at least both the dry and the rainy seasons to allow time for a proper assessment of all projects with respect to their quality.

She said project defects liability period should be based on the magnitude of the investment in order to ensure that contractors use the right quality of materials in the execution of projects.

Mr. Issahaku Nuhu Putiaha, the Wa Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) said the forum was organised not only to let the public feel part of the Assembly’s activities but also to solicit views, opinions and contributions to help enhance its planning process.

He said when the public developed that feel and sense of belongingness they would be willing to support the Assembly for it to be able to address issues affecting their development.
