Deputy Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Yaw Buaben Asamoah, has described Chairman of the Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana, Dr. Kwadwo Afari-Gyan as a pain in the neck.

According to Mr. Yaw Buaben Asamoah, his targeted swipes at Dr. Afari-Gyan were borne out of the 'explosive posture' the EC chairman has taken ever since he announced the ‘disputable’ winner of the 2012 presidential elections.

Speaking on Okay FM, Mr. Yaw Buaben Asamoah also criticised Dr. Afari-Gyan for what he deems as an inappropriate response to Justice Dotse, when the Supreme Court judge inquired from the EC’s lawyers where he (Afari-Gyan) has been since the court case started a few months ago.

Dr. Afari-Gyan in a response to the question reportedly told Okay FM in an interview that “the Supreme Court is not a movie house where I should be seated,” and wondered why he should be in court when the NPP’s petition hadn’t reached its substantive stage.

However, Mr. Yaw Buaben Asamoah observed that he could confidently pinpoint Dr. Afari-Gyan as a potential threat to Ghana’s democracy and must be made to learn to stand up for his responsibilities.

“Afari-Gyan is the sole returning officer for the presidential elections. Why is it that he always take the credit when it comes to announcing the winner of the elections but dispatches his men to talk on his behalf when trouble begins to loom? What at all is he doing in his hideout and what makes him feel that the pain the three petitioners have been through before arriving at the Supreme Court isn’t worth his time?” he asked.
