A former President of the Ghana Bar Association (GBA), lawyer Sam Okudzeto, has said the Chairman of the Electoral Commission, Dr. Kwadwo Afari-Gyan should be cautioned to desist from chewing gum in the court room.

The respected lawyer was joined by a train of legal brains who spoke Wednesday on Adom FM's Dea Mehunu programme which was also live on Asempa FM.

The Chairman of the Electoral Commission, Dr. Kwadwo Afari-Gyan was captured on national television chewing gum in the Chief Justice's courtroom at Supreme Court, when proceedings were ongoing.

An amused lawyer Okudzeto said amidst giggling that "You are not going to find it in a court of law, but there are a lot of etiquette that are observed in the bar and in the court".

He said "it is not allowed. No lawyer, no judges are allowed to chew gum in the court, it is prohibited in the court room.”

Lawyer Okudzeto stated that the demeanor of the EC boss is in need of advice by his lawyers.

"Somebody needs to advice him that you don't chew gum in the court," he added.

His views were corroborated by Lawyers Moses Foh-Amoaning and Opoku Agyemang, both lecturers at the Ghana School of Law.
