Alexander Afenyo-Markin is the Minority Leader in Parliament
Minority Leader and Effutu MP, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo Markin, has responded to his referral to Parliament’s Privileges Committee, stating that he is ready to appear before the committee and further requested a public hearing.
Speaking in Parliament on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, Afenyo Markin addressed the Minister of the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed Mubarack, after the minister asked Speaker to refer the MP to the committee over allegations related to recruitment in the security services that reportedly involve a senior government official.
Afenyo Markin said the minister knows the substance of the matter but had acted as if he did not.
He urged that the referral proceed and offered to make himself available for a public hearing to resolve the issue.
“Honourable Minister of the Interior, I am not too sure you want us to pursue this matter. I repeat because you and I know what we know. Let the referral be made. Let there be a public hearing; let Afenyo Markin, who these days is seen as perhaps, according to the allegations, saying something which is untruthful and because of that it is a breach of parliamentary privilege,” he said.
“Mr Speaker, you have the wisdom to exercise the discretion. I will avail myself should you exercise that discretion to a public hearing and then the matter can then be brought to a peaceful rest,” he added.
Afenyo Markin’s remarks comes after the interior minister requested the referral in response to the Minority’s claims about recruitment in the security services that reportedly involve a senior government official.
The Privileges Committee will now consider whether to hold a public hearing to determine any further action.
