The Majority Leader in Parliament and MP for Effutu, Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin has hit out at the NDC for pretending to like people from the Zongos, which in reality, he said, they don't.

Speaking at a stakeholders engagement at Winneba, during the campaign visit of NPP Presidential Candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia on Monday, Afenyo-Markin said after the NDC played tribal cards for years against the NPP that it was an Akan party, it has now clearly emerged that it is rather the NDC that doesn't promote Muslims in their party leadership, an apparent reference to the recent withdrawal of Haruna Iddrisu and Muntala Mubarak as Minority Leader and Minority Chief Whip respectively.

"They only go to Zongos to use you and dump you. That is why they don't allow Muslims to rise in the NDC, as high as Dr. Bawumia has in the NPP. This is the time for all of us to come together to honour Dr. Bawumia, " he urged.

Afenyo-Markin added that for the youth of Zongos, the NDC's only interest in them is to lure them into leading violence.

"The NDC's only mission for the Zongos is to go to Ashaiman, Madina, Nima and New Town to recruit young people to lead confusion for them," added the MP, and urged the Zongo Youth to reject the NDC's overtures

"Say no to them and embrace your brother. The election will be peaceful so let us all come together."

Afenyo urged the youth of Zongo to join their Christian friends so that together, history will be made.

"In the history of Ghana since 1957, this is the first time a Muslim is leading a major party in an election, and this is happening in the NPP. So in 2025, as we swear with the Bible so shall we swear with the Quran too."

"We, Christians, are resolved to honour Dr. Bawumia because he deserves it. So my Muslim brothers, the NDC has nothing to offer. They only come to Zongos to use you and dump you. That is why they don't allow Muslims to rise in the NDC, as high as Dr. Bawumia has. This is the time for all of us to come together to honour Dr. Bawumia," he urged.
