On Monday, December 18, some angry beneficiaries of the Youth in Afforestation module stormed the head office of the Forestry Commission to demand their five months unpaid allowances.

The angry youth said they were tired of the assurances given to them by the Chief Executive Officer of the Forestry Commission, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie (Sir John) and wanted their monies paid before the Christmas break.

Addressing the concerns of the youth, the Chief Executive Officer of the Forestry Commission, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, assured them that the delayed allowances of persons recruited unto the government’s Youth in Afforestation programme will be paid by close of day Wednesday. Checks at the Forestry Commission this morning, December 19 shows that, the allowances have been paid.

According to the Corporate Affairs and Media relations officer, Joyce Ofori Kwafo, the leadership of the commission prior to the demonstration by the youth met with them on the status of the commission securing funding for the unpaid allowances.

“I have document here to prove that the government of Ghana has paid the money but you see the money paid is not cash, it has to go through processes “she said. She said the delay is due to the processes the payment voucher has to go through before the cheque is approved.
