Officials of Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority at Aflao have intercepted two vehicles from Nigeria bearing similar registration numbers.

A third vehicle also with the same registration number, which according to records of the Customs Division at Aflao, entered the country earlier, was being sought.

Mr. Samuel Anim, a Collector in charge of the Preventive Mobile Unit and Rapid Deployment Team, said at 1630 hours on May 14 this year, a Toyota Highlander Jeep with a Nigerian registration number ABC 663 AE, arrived at the Wlitey Customs Checkpoint on the Dzodze-Akatsi Highway from Aflao en-route Accra.

He said examination of the vehicle document and Temporal Vehicle Import (TVI), which were issued on the vehicle on arrival at Aflao, revealed discrepancies on the data resulting in the officers ordering the vehicle’s return to Aflao.

Mr. Anim said, checks by the Customs Division on TVI records showed that the registration number ABC 663 AE already reflected in two previous declarations on vehicles from Nigeria entering Ghana.

He said on May 18, this year, upon intelligence leads, a Lexus 300 saloon car, bearing number, ABC 663 AE, believed to be the same number of the previous ones sighted in the records, was spotted at the Aflao Low Cost suburb and was intercepted.

Mr. Anim said he could not tell exactly the motive of the perpetrators of the oddity, but observed that this could be a plan to confuse authorities keeping track of vehicles imported into the country.**
