Afoko, Kwabena Agyapong will soon step down - Bugri Naabu

Daniel Bugri Naabu has emphatically posited that the reign of the party’s National Chairman, Paul Afoko and the General Secretary, Kwabena Agyei Agyapong and some of the National Executives members, will abruptly cease to function as soon as the various regional chairs elect their representatives for the National Council.

Having taken note of the writ filed in court challenging the composition of the National Council (NC) that the regional representatives were not elected as prescribed by the Constitution of the NPP and in its attempt to halt any further delay in the organization of the party’s Presidential Primaries, the ten regional chairmen of the opposition party say it intends to hold a Regional Delegates’ Conference to elect NC reps.

It should be noted that since the formation of the NPP in 1992, NC representatives from the regions have always been appointed after due consultation and this convention has become established in the party.

This notwithstanding, a member of the NPP is praying the court for its interpretation of the party’s constitution.

To avoid a further occurrence of this and to ensure peace in the party, the ten regional chairmen have decided to convene a regional delegates’ conference for each region to elect their representatives to the NC, scheduled to take place on the 29th of June 2014 across the country.

Speaking to this on Okay Fm’s “Adeakye Abea” Morning Show, Bugri Naabu averred that if the suit is to be given any acceptance, then going by the party’s Constitution, Paul Afoko, Kwabena Agyapong and the other members were illegitimately elected into their various National Executive positions since the same people they consider as not properly constituted to be at the National Council voted for them at the Tamale National Delegates’ Conference.

“The Court case will delay the Presidential Primaries and we will suffer in the end; therefore if Paul Afoko and Kwabena Agyapong are saying that we should elect National Council representatives according to the party’s constitution, we will do it though it will cost us a lot of money…...then according to the party’s constitution they are quoting from, as soon as we finish the NC representative elections at the various regions, then the national elections become null and void because it was the same people at the NC who they now consider illegitimate, who voted for the national executives at Tamale Sports Stadium.

"If they say they don’t recognize those who voted for them, then they don’t have any business being position at the National Executive level……as soon as we do it, then it means that Paul Afoko and his people must step down from their positions; they are not qualified to be there and that is fair play and justice,” he asserted.
