Afoko had ‘serious confrontation’ with late Adams Mahama

Gregory Afoko, one of the two main suspects in the death of the Upper East Region Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Alhaji Adams Mahama, had a “serious confrontation" with the deceased.

But he was chased away by thugs.

This was contained in the charge sheet of prosecutors at the trial.

Mr Afoko - nicknamed 'Rasta' - appeared before the Accra Magistrate Court on Tuesday, May 26 after being arrested on Thursday, May 21 for allegedly acid-attacking the late chairman near his residence in Bolgatanga.

His accomplice, Asabke Alangdi, is on the run, according to the prosecutor.

Alangdi absconded together with his wife, leaving their baby.

The death of Alhaji Mahama has deepened internal wrangling within the largest opposition party with regional executives conferring to pass a vote of no confidence in National Chairman Paul Afoko – whose brother is standing trial – and General Secretary Kwabena Agyei Agyepong.

The two national executives had been prevented to hold a meeting in Bolgatanga by the deceased exactly a week before his demise.

Alhaji Mahama was laid to rest last Saturday.

Investigations are ongoing, according to the police.
