Africa must learn from Ghana’s democracy—Kofi Annan

The former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan says he hopes other African countries learn from what he described as Ghana’s maturing democracy.

Kofi Annan is one of several dignitaries who graced the inauguration of President John Dramani Mahama at the Independence Square in Accra Monday.

He said happenings in Ghana clearly show that country’s democracy is being concretized.

“We are all very pleased that Ghana’s democracy is maturing, it is taking hold and the people believe in the democratic rotation of leadership.

“This is something that Ghanaians should hold dear and it is an example that I hope other African countries would emulate” Mr. Annan said.

Also at the event was current Secretary General of the 79-member African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States, Dr Muhammed Ibn Chambas.

Speaking to XYZ News, who is also former Executive Secretary of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) urged to Ghana to continue to be democratic and respect the constitution of the country.
