Africans have been advised to invest and to engage themselves in business assiduously to be able to compete on the international plane. This is because it is only by productive investments that we can redeem ourselves from the bondage of poverty, oppression and all indignities forced on us as a people.
The Vice President Prof. Atta Mills made the call when he jointly opened the Trade and Investment Exposition at the 5th African -African American summit with the Founder and Convenor Rev Dr. Leon Sullivan.
He said on the dawn of a new millenium lessons should be drawn from extreme adversities of the past. Prof. Mills described the summit theme "Business Trade and Investment" as appropriate, adding that the slogan "Africa can compete", captures the essence of the confidence of all Africans.
The Convener of the Summit Rev. Dr. Sullivan on his part, said Ghana stands as the flagship of Africa and the convening of the summit in Ghana points to that fact.
He pointed out that the fifth summit is especially important because it would break new grounds in development progress for African people, not only in Africa but the around the world. He said the summit looks forward to a promising and productive week.
