African Market Holds House Party

The newly-commissioned African Market in Accra last week held a cultural briefing for ambassadors, media practitioners and stakeholders in the tourism industry.

The d?cor of the three-storey market on the Abebresem Street opposite the Kikiriki Spicy Chicken in Osu has an African touch.

The floor is carpeted with traditional mats, the stairs are decorated with bamboo sticks and the ceiling is lined with colourful African batik. It has a bar that serves assorted African drinks including a locally brewed beer, pito and palmwine.

The Minister of Trade and Industry, Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku was a special guest at the ceremony. Representatives of the traditional rulers of Osu who were at the event gave tourists an insight into the deep rooted customs of the Ga state.

After Dr. Apraku proposed the toast with a calabash of palm wine, it was all hearty for the invited guests who helped themselves with African dishes. The dishes on offer include Kenkey, Aprapransa, boiled plantain with Kontomere stew, Waakye, crab soup and a wide variety of vegetables.

Some tourists obviously delighted after enjoying the dishes, described them as very tasty and highly recommendable.

Also present at the function were the President of the Ghana Journalists Association, Mrs. Gifty Affenyi-Dadzie, the out-going Deputy British High Commissioner, Mr. Craig Murray and Dr. Ibn Chambas, Member of Parliament for Bimbila constituency.
