African leaders must be guided by Mills’ good leadership – Ludwig Hlodze

African leaders have been asked to see Ghana’s late president, John Evans Atta Mills, as a symbol of good leadership to guide their governance.

Former National Youth Organiser of the National Democratic Congress, Ludwig Hlodze, said Prof. Mills was an embodiment of humility, a trait rare among African heads of states.

Speaking on Onua FM Monday morning to commemorate the 5th anniversary of the demise of Prof Mills, Mr Hlodze said the late President brought so much respect and honour not just to the people of Ghana but to the entire African continent. He observed Prof. Mills’ good virtue and respect for everyone regardless of the person’s status in society was unmatched.

“My colleagues and I, one day decided to change the SIM card of his mobile phone because we thought the President phone number had become unnecessarily popular…After 5 days, the President having realized he was no longer receiving too many calls, asked me why this is so, and I confessed to him that me and my colleagues had changed his SIM Card. “He became furious and I nearly lost my job.

He warned me never to repeat that again, saying he became President thanks to the hardwork and trust of the people”, he narrated to Bright Kwesi Asempa, host of the “Yen Nsem Pa” on Onua FM. According to Ludwig, Prof. Mills was down to earth that he sometimes ask him to call five to six constituency chairmen “just to say hi to them”.

“You can imagine how you will feel if you are a constituency chairman, sitting under a tree playing draught, and the President calls you to ask you how you are doing” he said.. He said heads of states were always associated themselves with Prof Mills whenever he attended African Union Summits due to his humility.
