African religious leaders must preach peace

The Chairman of the Church of Pentecost Worldwide, Apostle Dr. Opoku Onyinah has called on religious leaders across Africa to preach peace in order to bring an end to the numerous religious clashes and killings that has plagued the continent lately.

He said it is very sad that people in their bid to please the Lord will go that far to kill others in His name.

Apostle Dr. Opoku Onyinah made the remark at the opening of the church’s 41st General Council Meeting held at the Pentecost Convention Centre located within the Millennium City Estate, Gomoah Fetteh, near Kasoa.

According to him anyone who truly knows the heart of God will never kill his fellow man citing the cruel attacks of South Africans on other Africans which he touted as “most disturbing,” as an example.

The council meeting which is a very important event of the church and themed, “Being a Good Steward of God in My Generation” Mathew 25:21 brought together representatives from more than 90 countries worldwide.

While appealing to the leadership of the various sects responsible for what he described as barbaric acts, the Apostle urged them to counsel their members to desist from such ungodly acts.

Apostle Dr. Opoku Onyinah also reminded citizens of countries in Africa to be circumspect in their actions towards fellow Africans and see them as their brothers and sisters.

He challenged the leadership of the African Union (AU) to take the recent developments on the continent as a test case to manage the affairs of Africa in a more proactive way.

The immediate past chairman of the church, Apostle Dr. Michael Kwabena Ntumy urged the leadership of the church to avoid temptations to become complacent following the landmark successes being chalked by the church.

Apostle Dr. Ntumy who is also the current head of the Church’s Literary Board, expressed appreciation to the entire membership of the church for supporting him during his seven years hospitalization.

Apostle Dr. Opoku Onyinah told DAILY GUIDE in an interview that the church which has grown to become one of the fastest growing churches in the world has a worldwide membership of 2,626,902 with Ghana recording 2,251,109 members.

Apostle Dr. Opoku Onyinah was happy that the church continues to play leading roles in social services to the vulnerable in society aside promoting government programmes.
