Spokesperson for Ex-President Jerry John Rawlings and also the National Organizer of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kofi Adams has concluded that a publication about the former President in the Africawatch Magazine is an attempt to create fear and panic among his lovers, followers and supporters.
The Africawatch Magazine in its May Edition published that Ex-President Rawlings has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.
But lawyers for the former President have asked the publishers of the monthly magazine, Liberty Media Concepts, to retract the story, apologise with the same prominence given to the story or face legal action.
A copy of a rejoinder by the legal team of the former President said “We also demand that you immediately halt the distribution of the said edition of the offensive publication and cause the retraction and apology to be published immediately in at least one major newspaper in all the countries listed on the cover as circulation zones, as well as in the next monthly edition of the magazine.”
The rejoinder said the story headlined – “Now This Man needs your prayers, Parkinson’s disease eats Rawlings’ strength away” was false and they (lawyers) had been instructed to take legal action against the magazine, if it failed to meet the demands of the rejoinder."
Commenting on the issue on Okay Fm’s 'Ade Akye Abia' Morning Show, Kofi Adams fumed that the Africawatch story about former President Rawlings need to be condemned as the magazine is fond of publishing stories about people without any credible source.
“This is not the first time this Magazine has written false story about former President Rawlings, and the intension is to cause fear and panic among the lovers, followers and supporters of Rawlings . . . this story is meant to denigrate him,” he asserted.
“. .At least at his age he will surely have a health card to go to the hospital for one illness or the other, but never in his visit to any hospital for a review has it been confirmed that he is suffering from Parkinson’s disease,” he clarified.
He therefore entreated the Africawatch Magazine to stop writing falsehood about the former President.
Meanwhile Africawatch Magazine publication on Mr. Rawlings’ illness was very categorical that they have spoken to his doctors in Ghana and South Africa but Kofi Adams says there is no iota of truth in the publication except to disgrace his boss.
Parkinson's disease is a progressive disorder of the nervous system that affects movement. It develops gradually, sometimes starting with a barely noticeable tremor in just one hand. But while a tremor may be the most well-known sign of Parkinson's disease, the disorder also commonly causes stiffness or slowing of movement.
