The wife of the late former Military Head of State, General Akwasi Afrifa, has welcomed proposals for the establishment of a National Reconciliation Commission.

Mrs Christine Afrifa, whose husband was executed in 1979 when former President Rawlings led the Armed Forces Revolutionary Council in a military takeover says the reconciliation process will help unravel the truth surrounding the execution of the former Heads of State.

Speaking in an interview with the BBC, Mrs Afrifa said her husband might have been executed because Mr Rawlings saw him as a threat to the AFRC regime.

She believes a reconciliation commission will enlighten Ghanaians on why the former Heads of State were executed. She noted that the truth about the execution of the officers is necessary for the sake of posterity and will also help avert the tendency to seek revenge and retribution.
