The controversy surrounding Ghana’s shambolic 2014 World Cup tournament and the aftermath happenings might be endless after news of a fresh kickback allegation involving a former Minister of Youth and Sports and E-volution, a company hired by the Ministry, went viral.
Manasseh Azure-Awuni, Former journalist of the year and a staff of JOY FM, who is investigating the deal, revealed recently that one hundred thousand cedis was paid to the sacked sports minister, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah as production cost by E-volution, a company that won a 1 million cedis contract to provide service during the 2014 World Cup.
His revelation is creating some discomfort within the parties involved in the alleged bribery scandal.
Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah whose name was mentioned to be a beneficiary of the 1 million cedis contract by the sports ministry and GNPC [Ghana National Petroleum Corporation] to E-volution has described the publication as untrue with malicious reasons to tarnish his reputation.
He asserts Manasseh Azure-Awuni has not been fair to him by coming out with the publication after several meetings with him to prove his innocence.
However, speaking on Peace FM’s flagship morning show Kokrokoo Tuesday, Manasseh insisted that, documents which evidently prove that Mr. Ankrah was involved in the scandal is available for everyone to verify.
“If they [Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah, E-volution and GNPC] are all saying there is no truth in what I have put out there, then it depends on how the public will take it.
"...I spoke with Elvis, and he claims there is no truth in that…but if he will say I have not been fair to him, the information is out there for the public and other state agencies to look into as well… Whether monies were paid or not and who got it and for what reasons,” he stated.
