In August 2015, Ghanaweb broke the news that veteran broadcaster, Fiifi Banson, shocked radio audiences by announcing that he was leaving radio for good.

His stated reason for leaving was to pursue a long-held dream of setting up a 24-hour sports station.

Unfortunately, his ambitious Platinum Sports project did not quite succeed, leading to a long period out of the radio scene until now.

On Monday, February 3, 2025, the Dynamite blasted his way back onto the airwaves, having been cajoled out of retirement by SportyFM, which was launched a fortnight ago.

"Everyone knows I have always wanted to do something like this, so once the scope of this 24/7 radio station dedicated to sports was explained to me, I was hooked," Banson said in an interview.

SportyFM has brought in Banson to handle their late afternoon slot of their 24/7 sports and the show's premiere featured a mix of sports interviews, a debate segment, and energetic musical interludes that flowed seamlessly.

"This is the first time in Ghana’s broadcasting history that we have a sports drivetime show, and it is fitting that Mr. Banson — a man who has always dreamed of a station like this — is the one to keep audiences hooked," said Gary Al-Smith, Regional Content Lead at the Sporty Group.

He continued, "We are excited at the anticipation that greeted the Dynamite, and we know his immense creativity will bring an explosion of life into the media space."

With football administrator Kudjoe Fianoo and ex-Black Stars player Augustine Ahinful as guests on his show, Banson brought back memories of his charismatic and energetic style while introducing youthful segments for the current generation.

"The plan was for a happier show, but we had to change it because of the trending news involving the Kotoko supporter who died at a league match on Sunday," Banson said.

"However, I am thrilled that the same desire I have always had to inform and entertain my audience still burns brightly. I'm looking forward to a great time!"
