Agave Development Association 13th Annual Fundraising and Dinner Dance on 4 May 2013

The Agave Development association in the UK and Ireland launched a very successful Fundraising campaign on Saturday 4th of May at the Selby Centre in Tottenham, North London.

Giving the opening address, the Chairman of the association, Mr. Julius Kwabla Gamor stated that they aim to raise £3,500 to enhance the water supply for the Sogakope District Hospital. Mr.Gamor intimated that the 60-bed District Hospital, which is strategically situated on the Accra-Aflao highway, does provide emergency services to motor accident victims, among others. He said, however, in the past 3 years the hospital has been bedevilled with many challenges including perennial water shortages. He therefore implored those present to donate generously to alleviate the water shortage and ensure better quality service delivery to patients

Mr. Gamor quoted Nelson Mandela by saying that ,"It always seems impossible until it is done", and urged everyone to support their worthy cause. He said Every Little helps. He also thanked members of the Association in particular Miss Gladys Gafrey for taking the lead role in organising the Fundraising, and Mr. Jacob Amusu the secretary for his drive and determination and the last but not the least, the association's first chairperson, Mrs Mercy Bolus for her vision.

His excellency, Professor Kweku Danso-Boafo, Ghana's High Commissioner to the UK was represented by the Head of Chancery, Mr. Edwin Adjei. Speaking on

behalf of the High Commissioner, Mr. Adjei praised members of the Agave Development Association for their generous contributions towards the development of their people back home. He urged other Ghanaian community groups to emulate the good example of the association. He also urged Ghanaians in the UK to maintain their contacts back home and ensure that their children are not influenced by negative foreign lifestyles in the UK.

The Chairman of the occasion, Dr.Anang who was accompanied by his wife Mrs. Honorie Anang, thanked the association for inviting them for the second time. As a medical doctor in the UK he shared some of his experiences working in the UK as a surgeon and how fortunate people are here with excellent health care. He cited scenarios whereby people donate to help their own countries and encouraged everyone to contribute so that the less fortunate people back home can also benefit.

The ambience of the hall was not only welcoming but also inviting and pleasing to everyone who entered. It was superbly decorated to match a top first class hotel’s reception hall expectations. .

Activities included sexual health awareness stand by a sexual health specialist, Sandra Bennett who used the occasion to promote good health.

Among the dignitaries at the high table was Mr Hudson Kodjo Ablordeppey, Volta View Hotel manager at Sogakope who had travelled from Ghana to grace the occasion. Mr & Mrs Bill Ayivor former Chairman of Noviha UK, currently based in Ghana was also present and brought greetings from Ghana.

Mr. Boateng, a retired accountant was also at the high table and was honored for his generous contribution to Agave Development Association over the last 5 years.

MCs for the event were Mr. Kabu Charway and Ms Gladys Gafrey who jointly did a fantastic job. The association members and their guests saw the best of their performances and danced to traditional Agbadza dance as well as hi-life, azonto and different types of music till about 2 am.

There were varieties of Ghanaian dishes coupled with European delicacies as well as plenty of drink. The evening was graced with

beautiful ladies in their traditional attires who danced gracefully to the different types of music from thet start at 7pm to finish.

Mr. Frank Agbloe, one of the elders and adviser to the association drew the raffle tickets with some amazing prizes won by individuals.

One guest commented that it was by far the best fundraising and dinner dance he has ever attended, whilst others also complimented on the good atmosphere and fun. Others concluded that it was simply the best.

After the vote of thanks by Ms Pat Gaffrey the DJ continued to play cool music to whilst guests danced till late.

It was truly a fantastic night to remember.
