There has been a significant drift of airline passengers toward African World Airlines due to its overall business strategy, customer service delivery, routes flown and frequency of flights, some travel agents told the B&FT.

AWA’s model of a five-fold charter comprising qualities of safety, security, reliability, comfort and affordability has been touted by its travel agents as one of the key reasons why airline passengers are shifting their patronage from other airlines to AWA.

This was disclosed at AWA’s 2nd Anniversary celebrations held to reward and interact with its 150 travel agents and corporate passengers.

“Since AWA started operations, most of our clients plying the Tamale-Accra route prefer its services since the airline’s strategy works well for them,” Emmanuel Agbodzi, CEO of Maseec Travel, said.

“AWA, unlike the once a day frequency flown by other airlines, usually flies 3 or 4 times daily to Tamale from Accra, giving our clients convenience and choices should they miss their early morning or afternoon flight.”

Kwame Jantuah, a corporate flyer with AWA, mentioned the need for AWA to dominate the West-Coast route of the sub-region, adding that the airline has a safety sense and a well-organised structure.

“Our clients now prefer AWA because their aircrafts are faster since they operate jets and not turbo-props like other airlines. They appear to be punctual and safe, and as travel agents, that helps promote our business as well,” Ernest Asante of Diplomatic Travel Escorts told the B&FT.

The Chief Operating Officer of Africa World Airlines, Apiigy Afenu, also reiterated his airline’s interest in partnering government toward the realisation of a national airline through a public-private partnership, stressing that the airline is still growing in strength through the establishment of regional networks and skilled manpower to manage such a national venture, currently undergoing assessment by transaction advisors PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC).
