Aggressive work to begin on Eastern corridor road – Minister

Kwasi Amoako Atta, the Minister for Roads and Highways, said "aggressive" work would soon begin on the Eastern corridor road to make it motorable.

He said government had identified the stretch as a "critical" road and would ensure that "it is delivered".

Mr Amoako Attah said this at a durbar of chiefs in the South Dayi District of the Volta Region at Kpeve during the tour of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

The Road Minister said government was aware of the state of roads across the country and disbursed funds through Government of Ghana and the Road Fund to pay some 10,000 certificates for contractors to return to site.

He said by the end of November 2019, work would resume on all stalled road projects across the country.

President Akufo-Addo said his government was dealing with the state of roads in the country.

Togbe Deiga Kodzo Dei IV, Paramount Chief of Peki, said the bad state of the Eastern corridor and roads in the South Dayi District had caused the death of several people through road crashes with many losing their livelihoods due to plummeting economic activities.

He called for redevelopment and retooling of the Peki Hospital.

The President earlier commissioned dormitories at the Vakpo Senior Technical and the Vakpo Senior High School, with the Technical School, said to have come alive courtesy government's free Senior High School policy.

At the Volta Star Textiles Limited at Juapong, President Akufo-Addo restated government's commitment to the factory and said whatever was required to bring it back to life would be done.

He said the future of the country was in industries and that government would support the factory to stay afloat, grow and make profits.
