The Chiefs and people of Asante Akyem Agogo have served notice to boycott the 59th Independence Day Celebration that would be observed in the District in protest over the Fulani debacle which has plunged the area into volatility.

In a letter signed by Seth K. Amoah, Secretary to the Agogo Mman Man Kuo Local and Agogo Youth Association (AYASS) and addressed to the District Chief Executive of the area with copies to the District Police Commander and some other stakeholders, the locals argued that their action is borne out of unfair treatment being meted out to them by the State security operatives.

Nomadic Fulani herdsmen have in recent time been terrorizing the people of Asante Akyem Agogo and surrounding communities over attempts to prevent their cattle from grazing on their lands.

Attempts to get the nomads out of the land by the locals have proved futile because of fierce resistance by the Fulani herdsmen.

A few weeks ago, the Inspector-General of Police dispatched a joint military-police taskforce to the area maintain peace and also the peaceful ejection of the nomads from the land.

But the locals say the responsibility of the taskforce have been compromised and therefore sees a boycott of the Independence Day Celebration as the means to register home their displeasure.

“The security personnel sent to Agogo to protect the lives of the people of Agogo and its surrounding villages are rather protecting the Fulani people and their cattle”.

“We therefore, write to inform you that any attempt to disregard this warning means you are taking us for granted and that we shall do everything possible to resist it”, he noted.
