Agogo was ready to die for Ghana - Fans react to death of former Black Stars player

Ghanaian football fans, like many football fans around the world, have been reacting to the death of former Black Stars striker Manuel Junior Agogo.

The ladies’ man as he Agogo was affectionately known, died on Thursday morning in a London hospital.

The death of the former Nottingham Forest player came as a shock to most Ghanaians who confirmed their ignorance about the player’s ill health which struck him after his retirement from football four years ago.

Agogo played for the Ghanaian National team between 2006 and 2009 making 27 appearances and scoring 12 goals for the Black Stars.

The player who is fondly remembered for his remarkable goals, bald haircut and iconic goal celebration left lots of memories behind.

At the pinnacle of his career, Agogo scored over 140 goals in his professional career and immensely helped Ghana qualify for the semi-final stages of the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations where they placed third.

At 32 Junior Agogo was at the pinnacle of his career, playing great soccer and was idolized by many.

News about Agogo's stroke shocked the world in January 2015, after retiring from football. He was reported to have been struck with Aphasia which adversely impeded his speech.

When Ghanaweb TV interviewed some Ghanaian’s on the streets, they confirmed how devasted they felt after hearing news of his passing.

Some of the fans shared their fondest memories of the former Nottingham Forest striker.
