THE YOUTH and elders of Agormeda near Dodowa in the Dangbe West District of the Greater Accra Region have resolved to change their destinies by joining forces to take up communal and developmental projects that will meet the aspirations of their people.

And to achieve that long term dream, a chief, Nene Matey Agidi III, has announced his importation of a cassava chips machine and vowed to do all within his means to assist them.

These and other development-oriented programmes were highlighted recently during the official out-dooring of the Lekpedze-Dom Youth Club, a progressive organisation in the town.

The colourful ceremony, which attracted a cream of Shai citizens, defied a heavy downpour earlier in the day and merely shifted venue to the forecourt of No.8 Tei Tsu Agidi Wem.

Swearing in the eight-member executive body of the club, Mr. Godsway Macbright advised members not to be carried away by the love for power and position, but show commitment to their cause at all times.

Mr. Macbright asked those with personal agenda to bow out of the club for other patriotic citizens to take up the mantle.

Continuing, Mr. A.A. Hopeson, founder of Gizo Youth Club, a sister group, explained that as far as club formation is concerned, there is more to it than meets the eye.

He therefore entreated the organisers to be steadfast in whatever they do. The assembly member of Agormeda Electoral Area, J.C.B Buer, noted that he was glad to have such energetic youth to work with and advised all to embrace communal work.

On his part, the secretary for the Shai Youth Council, Mr. David Odoi Tetteh, pleaded with all concerned citizens to pool resources together to better their lot.

According to him, that was the day he was looking up to and hopes the organisers would not let the opportunity slip by.

Mr. Odoi Tetteh made a passionate appeal to all Shai people both home and abroad, and other spirited people of Ghana to assist them complete work on the rehabilitation of ?65million community library at Dodowa.

Speaking exclusively to the Chronicle, Nene Agidi, the Weku Matse, who incidentally is the life-patron of the club intimated that his people deserved better lives than they are enjoying now and therefore took it upon himself to initiate a few projects to alleviate the plight of the deprived.

Nene Agidi further said that taking a cue from the President's Initiative on Cassava, he called in a team from the Netherlands to assist in the manufacture of cassava chips for export.

This, in his view, would bring ready market to farmers and also create employment for the youth, and specified that Agormeda would be marketing centre and depot for traders and farmers from other districts and regions.

The Weku Mantse later commissioned a second phase of street light for the town, which he funded at an undisclosed cost.

Cultural activities that crowned the occasion included folk takes and other displays from Klama, Soweto Beke and Obunu groups, as well as an array of dipo girls who thrilled the audience with their rhythmic footwork.
