Agona East Assembly approves supplementary budget

Nsaba (C/R), May 13, GNA - The Agona East District Assembly has approved a GH¢1,176,463 supplementary budget to further finance development projects/programmes this year. Announcing this at its first inaugural meeting at Agona Nsaba, Mr Dennis Armah-Frempong District Chief Executive (DCE) for the area said, as a newly created district, development focus would be on policies and programmes that would improve revenue generation and improvement in living standards.

He noted that, GH¢7,000 from the budget would be use to rehabilitate the abandoned Agona Nsaba and Kwanyako Markets, whilst GH¢15,000 would go to provide streetlights and finance rural electrification project in district. The DCE said GH¢352,639 would also be spent on the National Youth Employment Programme and additional GH¢8,000 for the completion of a footbridge at Agona Kwanyako over river Ayensu. Mr Armah-Frempong said to improve the quality of education, the Assembly has voted GH¢45,000 for the construction of four unit-classrooms, office and store for the Anglican Primary High School at Agona Kwanyako.

He said a total of GH¢23,000 would go into education and scholarship fund to assist brilliant but needy children in the district. Disaster victims and people with disability would also benefit GH¢5,000 and GH¢ 8,000 respectively from the budget. Nana Kwao Ponsie, Presiding Member of the Assembly, urged members to work hard to speed-up development programmes/projects in the district. He noted that the Assembly had focused on Internal Generated Fund (IGF) because it could not rely on the District Assembly Common Fund for all developmental projects. Mr Francis Ocran, a contractor in Agona Kwanyako was elected as Finance and Administration Sub-Committee Chairman of the Assembly.
