Members of the Agona East District Assembly, have unanimously confirmed President Mahama’s nominee, for the post of District Chief Executive (DCE) for the area.

All the 29 members present at the emergency meeting at Agona Nsaba, voted to approve Mr Francis Duodu Addo, as the new DCE.

The election was supervised by the Agona East District Electoral Director, Mrs Patience Shebrah.

Earlier, Mr Samuel Richard Zigah, Presiding Member (PM) of the Assembly, indicated that the unanimous acceptance of the DCE was a clear indication that members of the Agona East Assembly were yearning for the development of the area.

He said the Assembly was retrogressing due to disunity among members, and therefore, called for co-operation and understanding to ensure peace.

Mrs Queenster Pokuaah Sawyer, Deputy Central Regional Minister and Member of Parliament (MP) for Agona East, said the confirmation of the President’s nominee, would facilitate the area's development.

She assured the people that the road network in Agona East would be improved, to facilitate the free movement of goods and services.

Mr Acquinas Tawiah Quansah, Central Regional Minister, urged supporters and non-supporters of the NDC in the district to rally behind the new DCE to promote peace and development.

The Regional Minister advised the new DCE to work hard to fast-track Agona East district’s infrastructural development.

Mr Addo thanked the Assembly Members for the confidence reposed in him, and pledged to work hard to champion the development of the area.

He called for unity, understanding, love and peace among members of the Assembly, adding that without these it would be difficult for the district to move forward.

The DCE's position became vacant following the removal of Mr Martin Luther Obeng from Office in October.
