The Agona West Municipal Assembly has begun demolishing unauthorized structures at Agona Swedru and other big towns as part of efforts to de-congest the Municipality.

Mr. Samuel Oppong, the Municipal Chief Executive, told journalists that some unauthorized structures in the residential area had been pulled down and that the exercise would be extended to other communities.

Mr. Oppong said the front of the Assembly building had been cleared to enable the Department of Parks and Gardens to beautify the area, adding that the Swedruman Council of Chiefs had given their support to the demolition exercise.

He said the Assembly would relocate all artisans at Agona Swedru to a new industrial village as part of the de-congestion programme.

Mr. Oppong appealed to estate developers in the Agona West Municipality to obtain permit from the Assembly to avoid demolition of their structures.

He said the Assembly was making efforts to complete an office complex to house all decentralized departments and expressed concern about insecurity at Agona Swedru where almost every day there were reports of bags, mobile phones and valuable items.

He said the Assembly was encouraging residents to form neighborhood watchdog committees to support the police to combat crime.**
