George Aguddey, the Chief Executive Officer of Gocrest Security Limited, is facing trial at an Accra District Court for non-payment of a total GHC2, 653,161.90 Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) contribution of his workers.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge and was on Saturday, granted bail in the sum of GHC100, 000, with a cash surety of GHC50, 000.00 to be justified, until March 23.
According to Ms Freda Naa Adjeley Konney, the prosecutor for SSNIT, Mr Agudey, the Presidential Candidate of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) in the 2004 election, failed to pay GHC1, 036,986.77 SSNIT contributions of his workers, as at December 2012, which had accrued an interest of GHC1, 616,172.13.
At the initial hearing on February 2, his counsel, Mr Kwamena Baiden, disputed the amount, and requested SSNIT to furnish him with the details, but Ms Konney indicated that the accused had already been provided details of the case.
Last year, Mr Aguddey was arraigned before another Circuit Court in Accra for a similar offence, involving SSNIT contributions of GHC8.1 million between January 1995 and 2005.
Upon several hearings by the court, the case was discontinued, only for this one to emerge.
