Alexander Kofi Adu (Agya Koo) he remains hopeful that the matter will be resolved peacefully
Veteran Ghanaian actor Alexander Kofi Adu, popularly known as Agya Koo, has announced that the court case involving The Base Movement and The Base Ghana First LBG has been adjourned to Friday, May 15, 2026.
Speaking after proceedings at a High Court in Accra, Agya Koo said he was confident the legal process would help resolve the dispute and restore calm among members of the two groups.
“The case has been adjourned to Friday, May 15, and we believe the court process will bring clarity and order,” the report said.
The legal dispute stems from ownership issues and the use of the name ‘The Base Ghana First LBG’ after the breakaway from ‘The Base Movement’ which Dr George Oti Bonsu claim to have founded.
According to a report by adomonline.com on May 11, 2026, Base Ghana First LBG claims that both groups were originally part of The Base Movement until internal disagreements led to a split and the formal registration of the new organisation in March 2026.
In its statement of case, the plaintiff alleges that tensions emerged over leadership decisions, internal procedures and the management of the movement’s affairs.
The group further claims that some national executives were removed from official communication platforms and that activities of the original movement were suspended without proper consultation or due process.
Agya Koo, George Oti Bonsu 'fight' over ownership of the 'Base Movement'
Lawyers for Base Ghana First LBG argue that the new group has rapidly expanded and gained support across the country, but that The Base Movement is benefiting from its growing recognition and goodwill.
The plaintiff is therefore seeking a perpetual injunction to restrain The Base Movement from using the disputed name in any public engagements or official dealings.
Agya Koo said he remains hopeful that the matter will be resolved peacefully.
A dispute erupted between veteran actor Kofi Adu and Dr George Oti Bonsu over leadership and ownership claims surrounding the newly formed The Base Movement.
The tension escalated after Dr Oti Bonsu, speaking in an interview on Lawson Radio on May 1, 2026, dismissed comparisons with the actor, stating that Agya Koo was not his match in politics.
Dr Oti Bonsu argued that he founded the Base Movement, linking its origins to his role as a fundraising chairman for Kennedy Agyapong.
He insisted that he had documentation proving the group's formation and challenged Agya Koo to do the same in court.
