Agyarko Dismissal: Something about sacking doesn’t add up – Ace Ankomah

Private Legal practitioner and political activist, Ace Anan Ankomah seems to be suspicious about the manner in which Energy Minister Boakye Kyerematen Agyarko was given the sack by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Boakye Agyarko was yesterday relieved of his duties by President Akufo-Addo.

A statement issued by the presidency did not disclose exactly why he was sacked although it is alleged that it is related to the controversial Ameri deal.

The John Mahama administration in 2015 signed a contract with Africa and Middle East Resources Investment Group (AMERI) Energy, to rent the 300MW of emergency power from AMERI.

But according to the Akufo-Addo administration, it found out that AMERI had shortchanged the government as they presented an overpriced budget, and were overpaid by $150 million.

Stating his sentiments on Facebook, Ace Ankomah expressed that although he does not know what it is, the president’s dismissal “doesn’t add up.”

The post, which attracted varied opinions from his followers read, “I can’t place my finger on it, but something about this sacking doesn’t add up.”





Despite, the social and political activist’s position on the firing act, the Vice Chairman of the Volta River Authority (VRA) Senior Staff Association has admitted that the mandate by the head of state does not come as a surprise.

Theophilus Tetteh Ahia lauded the action stating that it was an inevitable decision by the president.

To him, Agyarko’s dismissal did not come as a surprise because the Energy Minister failed to engage key stakeholders including the VRA in renegotiating the deal.



“Most people who were involved in this business were not consulted, VRA senior staff, there are other stakeholders in this business, Ministry of Finance, Attorney General…VRA specifically was not consulted fully, so that is the end result,” he uttered in an interview with Citi TV.
