Tepa (Ash), July 26, GNA - The Ahafo-Ano North District Assembly, in collaboration with the Integrated Social Development Centre (ISODEC), has voted 160 million cedis to promote girl-child education.

Mr Akwasi Adu-Poku, District Chief Executive, who announced this at a durbar at Tepa, to climax the Girls' Education week celebration, said 600 girls have so far been supported by the two organisations since the inception of the girls' education programme in 1998.

Mr Adu-Poku said the District Assembly would continue with the Project, when ISODEC pulls out in September this year.

Miss Patricia Mary Aidoo, District Girls Education Officer, said the Project had increased the supply of basic school needs from 22 per cent to 44.2 while school-drop out rate had reduced from 13 per cent to 5.5 per cent.

She said teenage pregnancy and forced marriages were having negative impact on girls' education.
