Mankranso (Ash), March 26, GNA - The Ahafo-Ano South District Forestry Forum has been presented with over 600 seedlings of various tree species for an afforestation exercise in the district. The exercise is to help prevent the forest from being depleted by the illegal activities of chainsaw operators, timber contractors and some farmers.
Mr James Frimpong-Manso, a tree grower at Mpasaso-Dotiem in the district, who made the presentation at a meeting of the Forestry Forum at Mankranso, said that was his contribution towards the development of the forest in the district.
Mr Osei Owusu, an official of the Forestry Commission, stressed the need for planning and participatory management by all stakeholders in afforestation programmes. He mentioned annual programming and budgeting, advocacy, monitoring and increasing effectiveness as useful tools for realistic achievements in their operations.
Mr Owusu charged the re-elected executive members of the Forum to sustain interest and enthusiasm for the promotion of good governance in forestry management. Nana Anim Ababio, chief of Wioso and chairman of the Forum, urged members to help educate the communities on the need to protect the forest.
