Ahafo-Ano NPP denies report

The executive of the Ahafo-Ano North Constituency of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has denied that some of its activists attacked Fantes, Ewes and Muslims in the area who are believed to be sympathisers of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) after results of the recent polls were announced.

The newly-elected Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Mr Kwame Owusu Frempong said “ there is no iota of truth in the allegations levelled by the NDC against the party.”

Mr Frempong, who said this in an interview in Accra at the weekend, described the news item in the dailies as an attempt by the NDC to play the tribal card in the run-up to the second round balloting in the presidential election.

The MP-elect, however, explained that when the NPP won the parliamentary election in the constituency, some of the party’s supporters at Asuhyiae, in a jubilant mood, passed in front of the house of an activist of the NDC in the town who mistook them for a mob and made a report to the authorities concerned.

He said issues relating to confrontation among the various parties, especially between the NPP and the NDC, have been resolved, adding that “ there is at the moment relative peace and calm in the constituency.”

Mr Frempong thanked the electorate for voting for the NPP both in the parliamentary and presidential elections, and appealed to them to vote for the party in the run-off on December 28.

He said the NPP represents the best and only hope for the country’s future development and promised to meet the expectations of the people if the party’s presidential candidate becomes the next President of the country.

The MP-elect also called on supporters of other opposition parties in the constituency to cast their votes for Mr J.A. Kufuor in the second round balloting of the presidential slot.
