Tepa (Ash), Aug 12, GNA- Mrs Doris Dora Amaniampong, Ahafo-Ano North District Director of Education has stated that, the country would have a bright future if students were trained to be humble and honest. She pointed out that, the future of a student did not depend entirely on one's academic achievement but on character.

Mrs Amaniampong therefore, appealed to parents and all stakeholders in education to cooperate with teachers to ensure discipline among students and the youth.

These were contained in a speech read on her behalf at a forum organised by the Ahafo-Ano North district secretariat of the National Service Personnel Association for first and second-cycle students at Tepa in Ashanti.

It had as its theme: "Indiscipline in Ghanaian Schools, Its Consequences on the Academic Performance of Students and on the Nation as a Whole", and the forum formed part of the National Service Week celebrations.

Mrs Amaniampong advised the students to avoid negative practices like examination malpractices, stealing, pilfering, assault on colleagues.

Mr Gabriel Nyorkeh, the District National Service Co-ordinator was worried about the rampant sexual assaults on female students, especially those at the junior and senior secondary schools and asked victims of such attitude to report the perpetrators to the police. The Reverend Jones Clifford Akosah, a pastor of the Assemblies of God Church, asked the students to be obedient to their parents and teachers and shun bad company.

He also cautioned parents who assault teachers who discipline their children to stop that behaviour and rather co-operate with school authorities to correct bad students.
