Mankranso (Ash), May 9, GNA-Dr Edward Tagoe, the Ahafo-Ano South District Director of Health Services, has appealed to the government to provide means of transport to the Unit to facilitate health care delivery in the area.

He explained that the inability of the Service to reach out fully to remote communities was due to the lack of adequate means of transport for the health personnel.

Dr Tagoe said most of the communities were so remote that the personnel would require motorbikes and bicycles to get to the people adding, "but these facilities were lacking, thereby making it arduous for them to get there".

The District Director of Health Services was addressing the closing of a day's seminar organised by the district health directorate as part of the week's celebration of the child health at Mankranso at the weekend.

Thirty participants made up of community health nurses, health aids and midwives attended the seminar, aimed at improving upon immunisation coverage in the district.

They were taken through immunisation mop-up, handling of tetanus cases, how to treat insecticide mosquito nets, vitamin 'A' supplementation among other health issues.

Dr Tagoe said notwithstanding the problem facing the Service, health personnel in the district were committed to improving the health of the people, especially by sensitising mothers on the six childhood killer diseases. 9 May 05
