Ahafo-Ano South records increase in malaria cases

Mankranso (Ash), Oct 15, GNA-The Ahafo-Ano South District Hospital at Mankranso, has recorded an increase in malaria cases from 208 in 2003 to 3,248 cases during the first half of this year. Mrs Augustina Amoah, the Matron of the Hospital, who made this known, said the Out-Patient Department, recorded 7,836 attendances as against 6,062 in 2003 and an increase of HIV/AIDS from four cases last year to 15 in 2004.

She was speaking at the half-year review forum of the Hospital at Mankranso on Friday.

The forum was aimed at evaluating the performance of the Hospital and other health facilities in the sub-districts and how best to improve upon their performance.

Dr. Edward Tagoe, the District Director of Ghana Health Service, said the Directorate would adopt stringent measures to check the lukewarm attitude to work by some recalcitrant members of staff. Dr. Edward Kwabena Brobbey, the Ashanti Regional Leprosy Control Officer, asked the health workers to treat the patients humanely. Nana Obiri Agyei Mankran II, Mankransohene, commended Dr Albert Addai, a Senior Medical Officer at the Hospital for his commitment to hard work.
