Agona-Nkwanta (W/R), Feb. 19, GNA- Members of the Ahanta West District Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU) have decided to join their counterparts in Sekondi-Takoradi to embark on a strike if salary disparities were not rectified by February 29.
This was contained in a resolution signed by Mr Joseph Arthur, chairman and Mr John W.S.K Baidoo, Secretary of the district branch of TEWU. The resolution was copied to the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), heads of second cycle institutions, media houses and the Regional Coordinating Council.
The resolution was adopted during a meeting at the Baidoo Bonsoe Senior Secondary Technical School at Agona Nkwanta on February 13. It warned that if their demands for the rectification of salary distortions and disparities were not met by the deadline, "we will advise ourselves".
The contributions would cushion them as the fund would take care of the hardships before they could collect their pension entitlements. The District GNAT Secretary urged other teachers who are not contributors to do so as early as possible as their decisions would be in the right direction.
Mr Boateng told teachers to live above reproach and stay away from social vices such as drinking, sexual abuse and absenteeism but rather help to build the good image of the profession.
Mr John Tettevi from the District Education Office, Fanteakwa, who presided urged teachers to unite and fight for the common good of the profession.
