The Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), James Klutse Avedzi, has indicated the Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Robert Ahomka-Lindsey, will be dragged before the PAC to answer questions relating to claims he made that the Komenda Sugar Factory had not produced sugar from fresh sugarcane since its inception.

Mr Ahomka-Lindsey made that claim when he appeared before the PAC on Friday, 11th August 2017.

He told the PAC that: “The sugar you tasted from the Komenda Sugar Factory was not produced by the Komenda Sugar Factory, government bought semi-processed sugar and it was tasted. We have never put sugarcane through the full system of the Komenda sugar factory.”

But one Ransford Chatman Vanni-Amoah, who is former Secretary to the Management Board of the Komenda Sugar Factory, filed a petition against the Deputy Minister of Trade at the PAC, asking the body to punish him for perjury because he peddled falsehood before the Committee.

Speaking to Accra-based Citi FM on Monday, September 25 in relation to this matter, Mr Klutse Avedzi said: “If it is found that it is true that what he said was not true, we will give him the opportunity to apologise and if he refuses to apologise then we will refer the matter to Parliament or to the entire House because it amounts to perjury.

“He can lose his position as a Minister. For now we are still studying the petition. We haven’t taken the decision to invite the Minister yet.”
