Kwabena Mintah Akandoh (R) with health workers in the Northern Region
The Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has visited Northern Region to engage with health workers in the region and to check whether or not doctors posted to the region have duly reported.
The minister's visit follows widespread reports of Docrors refusing Postings to deprived and underserved areas in the country.
Many are commending the Health Minister for his proactive approach to the issue and his stance to block the salaries of doctors who refuse posting to those areas.
His visit, according to sources would help motivate the doctors who have already reported and those yet to report, to report.
Meanwhile, the Juaboso Member of Parliament has been assuring doctors and health workers posted to the region of government’s commitment to motivate them and make their stay comfortable.
He, however, reminded those who are refusing to report that there shall not be holiday or grace period should the ultimatum elapse.
On February 22, 2026, Mintah Akandoh, cautioned newly qualified doctors that failure to accept postings to rural areas could result in their removal from the government payroll by the end of February 2026.
He gave the warning during a working visit to the University of Ghana College of Health Sciences at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.
Addressing lecturers and medical trainers, he urged them to encourage young doctors to accept assignments across the country, particularly in underserved communities facing critical staffing shortages.
“By the end of February, we will do validation. If you have not reported, we will take your name out of the payroll,” he warned.
