Ako-Nai Floors Sylvester Mensah

There was jubilation when the NPP Parliamentary candidate for Dadekotopon, Mr. Godfried Ako-Nai was declared the winner of this year's parliamentary election. The people sang songs like 'aba mu awie', 'Ako-Nai, the winner' and 'we are the champions'.

In an interview with The Accra Mail, Mr. Ako-Nai said the result signifies the will of God and prayed for God's guidance and protection in order to carry out his duties effectively for a positive change in the constituency. He thanked God for making his dream a reality in his quest to serve his people if given the chance and dedicated the victory to God and the hard working people in the constituency.

Born on September 21, 1954, he had his elementary education at the La Wireless 7 from 1960 to 1968. He proceeded to Accra High School to do his 'O' Levels from 1968 to 1973.

After his 'O' Levels, he joined the Ghana Tobacco Company from 1973 to 1985 as an accounts clerk . He took a private course in RSA III in Accounting which he passed distinctively. He joined Premier Foods from 1991 and resigned in 1998 as an accountant

Mr. Ako Nai was elected Assembly Member for New Mantiase from 1994 and was re-elected in 1998.

According to him, he was sure of victory in the constituency since as an assembly member he was able to perform creditably. The incumbent he said 'had not done enough for the constituency in terms of development'. He pointed out that as a former Kpeshie sub-metro chairman, he was able to manage three towns, La, Teshie and Nungua and will therefore help to uplift the image of the constituency.

On the question of influencing the electorate, Ako-Nai said, his track record as an assembly man justifies the results and pledged to do his best in his new position. He called on members in the constituency to come together no matter their political affiliation to help raise the standard of the constituency to conform with other developed ones.

Ako-Nai thanked the electorate for their support and promised not to let them down within the next four years of his administration.
