Akosua Serwaa (L), late Daddy Lumba (M) and Priscilla Ofori (R) (Odo Broni)
A Kumasi High Court has clarified the marital status of the late Highlife legend Daddy Lumba, ruling that two women; Priscilla Ofori (popularly known as Odo Broni) and Akosua Serwaa, must both be recognised as his surviving wives.
The ruling, delivered on Friday, November 28, 2025, by Justice Dorinda Smith-Arthur, followed detailed evidence presented before the court.
The judge confirmed that both women were customarily married to the musician prior to his passing.
The court, however, dismissed a purported German marriage certificate tendered by Akosua Serwaa, intended to prove a civil marriage.

Justice Smith-Arthur noted that the document was only an extract and not an original certificate, and therefore could not be accepted as valid proof of a civil union.
In her ruling, the judge directed that the Abusuapanyin acknowledge both women during the performance of the widowhood rites and emphasised that nothing should obstruct the burial of Daddy Lumba.
This decision comes after the court earlier dismissed an injunction filed by Akosua Serwaa seeking to stop the funeral arrangements being led by the musician’s extended family.
Justice Smith-Arthur reaffirmed that under Ghanaian customary law, the body and burial rites of a deceased person rest with the matrilineal family, not a spouse.
The family of the late Daddy Lumba has been embroiled in internal disagreements since his passing on July 26, 2025.
