Techiman (B/A), Oct.10, GNA - A Techiman Circuit Court has fined a 32 year-old Akpeteshie distiller three million cedis on his own plea for inflicting cutlass wounds on a 90-year old farmer and member of the Akpeteshie Distillers Union at Kyidiagya, near Tuobodom in the Techiman Municipality. Kwadwo Nsiah, would serve 36 months imprisonment in default. The court presided over by Mr. Godwin A. Kwasikuma also ordered Nsiah to pay 500,000 cedis as compensation to the victim Opanin Kwaku Moshie.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Sampson Y. Jebuni told the court that, Nsiah had for sometime now been evading taxes to the Union. He said Executives of the Union invited Nsiah for discussion and warned him against the non-payment of taxes. Chief Inspector Jebuni said Nsiah was banned from operating because he had defaulted in the payment of taxes and falsifying waybills of the Union.

The prosecutor said the Executives received information that Nsiah was still operating and therefore, sent some officials to his place of operations at Kyidiagya, but Nsiah pulled out a cutlass and chased them inflicting injuries on Opanin Moshie's chest. He said a 'Good Samaritan' took Opanin Moshie to Techiman Holy Family Hospital and the matter was reported to the Police who arrested Nsiah and after investigations charged with the offence.
