Akropong Campus of Presby University needs water

Akropong-Akuapem (E/R), Nov 30, GNA - The Presbyterian University College (PUC), (Akuapem Campus) has appealed to the district assembly and the two parliamentarians in the area to help them solve the water problem facing the school.

Reverend Adu Okore, a head of department at the school said, the school purchases three tanks of water every week for the campus, excluding the hostels where students had to look for their own water. Rev Okore who made the appeal at the inauguration of executives of the Business Economic Students Association (BESA) of the school, urge the two MPs and the assembly to support the college with the construction of a borehole, to complement a water purification system being undertaken by the school.

He noted that the PUC in collaboration with Idle Wide Presbyterian Church in the U.S has embarked on a water treatment plant project, at a cost of GHC 63,000 but needed a water source, adding that, the project had identified the sinking of a borehole to serve as an intake source. Rev Okore advised the students to focus on their studies and not to replace learning with social activities that would not contribute to their marks.

He reminded them that the aim of university education was to acquire knowledge for national development, and their own wellbeing, adding that, the business economics was a new course introduced by the university and was geared towards micro business enterprises.

The Presiding member of the Akuapem North District Assembly and Assembly Member for the PUC area Mr Samuel Appenteng noted that, although the school was a private institution, its mandate requires that the assembly supported the institution.

He said with the public and private partnership improvement in education, it was imperative that the assemblies supported any tertiary institution, to meet the demands and targets of its communities. He therefore promised to contact the Members of Parliament (MP) for Okere, Mr Dan Botwe and Mr Ofori Boafo, MP for Akropong and see how best they could support the PUC.

Ms Gloria Kemi Akrong, Harriet Wattenberg and Antoinette Agbeko were sworn in as President, Treasurer and Secretary respectively, and promised to learn hard to further strengthen the Business Economics study.
