Mampong-Akwapim (E/R), March 29, GNA - The Deputy Minister of Works and Housing, Mr Alex Akuffo, has called on the chiefs and people of Akropong to show their appreciation for the various development projects in the area by voting for the NDC in this year' general elections.
He mentioned some of the major projects as the 10 million-dollar Spanish loan for the rehabilitation of the Akwapim Ridge Project and the reconstruction of the Adenta-Mamfi road.
Mr Akuffo was speaking at the extra-ordinary conference of the Akropong constituency branch of the NDC at Mampong last Tuesday. He called on the party's functionaries to intensify their education of the people about the truth of the economic problems facing the country to enable them to appreciate the efforts of government and vote massively for the NDC during the elections.
Mr Samuel Amfo, Deputy Regional Secretary of the party, explained that the conference was not electing parliamentary candidates because the party had introduced a new process of evolving the parliamentary candidates through a series of vetting from the constituency to the national level through the Regional Secretariat.
Later, the parliamentary candidates would be presented to members of the party in the constituency for endorsement, Mr Amfo said. Mr Anthony Gyampoh, Akuapem North District Chief Executive, said very soon all towns and villages in the District would be connected to the national grid.
He said, at the moment, the layout for the provision of electricity to about three-quarters of the District had been completed and submitted to the Ministry of Mines and Energy.
Mr Gyampoh said surveyors and other technical men were working on the last batch from Safro to the Adawso and Tinkorang-Amanfrom area. Mr Adjei Hall, First Vice-chairman of the party, who chaired the function, advised functionaries to avoid utterances that would divide the party and work towards its unity.
