*PRESS STATEMENT BY THE ORGANIZED YOUTH OF ASHANTI (OYA)*
* NANA AKUFO-ADDO IS CREATING ENEMIES FOR AKANS THIS IS A RECIPE FOR THE IVORIAN SITUATION *
"They have intentions to intimidate us in 2012 because they believe that *we the Akans are soft and cowards.* If that is the thinking, then we shall see. At least during the Atiwa bye-election, we showed a little of our colours there” - Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo William (Tuesday February 8, Eastern Region).
The above is the most *dangerous statement* ever pronounced in Ghana’s history and therefore demands a wholesale condemnation from all Religious Leaders of our country.
Civil societies and groupings like ours are trying very hard in fighting the perception that ‘some tribes are superior to another ‘in Ghana. And Nana Addo will not help but destroy the relentless efforts made by these groupings.
If Nana Addo wants to confirm that the NPP is an Akan party, he should stop there!! He should not imprudently conclude that Akans are soft and cowards. Akans are strong and bold clans which was able to capture a wide land area in the pre-colonial era.
The problem with Ivory Coast today is because of the tribal divide between the north and south. It has become deep seated with the Northerners taking an entrenched position as against the Southerners.
Nana Addo’s comment about Akans trying to assert themselves in an attempt to bully non-Akans is a recipe for disaster. We say so because, here in Ghana, Akans are predominantly in the South and the other tribe who are seen to be inferior (according to Nana Addo) are also in the North where poverty is endemic.
Nana Addo has come to terms with the fact that his electoral fortune in non-Akan areas is dimmed; he has then adopted a strategy to play Akans against those areas.
If Ghana’s elections will be fought on tribal lines; Akans against others, then Ghana is heading towards the Ivorian situation where the Northerners do not want to sit with the southerners and vice-versa. This has created a huge problem for Africa and we all should not allow desperate Nana Addo to take Ghana that lane.
We again humbly call on the major *Traditional Authorities in the Akan*areas to appeal to their subjects not to follow Nana Addo’s warmongering advice to send Ghana to the Ivorian way.
We also call on the entire people of Ghana to pray to the *Almighty God* not to alow People who think like Nana Addo to ever ascend to the highest seat (Presidency) in Ghana.
Our call is premised on the fact that it is now obvious that any President like Nana Addo will plunge Ghana into anarchy. Ghanaians should remember that this was revealed to us some time in 2007 by a confidant to Nana Addo;
“Ghana will be plunged into chaos if NPP mistakenly elects Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo as its flag bearer and eventually becomes the president of Ghana, because he is temperamental, hot headed, arrogant, and also have a score to settle with former President Rawllings” – Michael Ampong (Wednesday, 5thDecember, 2007 at hello fm in Kumasi and subsequently reported on Friday 7 th December in the Chronicle newspaper).
GHANA IS NOT READY FOR NANA ADDO’S PRESIDENCY BECAUSE AKANS ARE DISCERNING. PERIOD!!!!
