Citizens and not spectators! Maybe that’s how you can describe social media users.

On every social, political, religious issue, in fact every pressing issue that makes its way to the media space, you would find them expressing their views, unapologetically and rather harshly, sometimes.

Following an Accra High Court’s directive, endorsing the National Identification Authority’s registration exercise in the Eastern Region, many have taken to social media to air their views.

For most people, this action vindicates Former President John Mahama because his directives during the period Ebola broke out were in the interest of the citizens. They believe Mahama’s head would have been called for if such a decision was taken under his tenure.

Others however condemned the suggestions, with arguments that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s ‘worse decisions’ still will not outweigh Mahama’s bad precedent.

The Accra High Court Friday dismissed an injunction application seeking to stop the National Identification Authority from continuing with its Ghana Card registration in the Eastern Region.

According to the court, the NIA’s decision to go ahead with the registration is not against the President’s directive suspending all public gatherings.

The Judge, Justice Anthony Oppong explained that the directive did not stop operations of businesses but rather asked operators to observe certain protocols including social distancing.

“Ghanaians be hypocrites because if ibi Mahama ein time this particular NIA thing happen like we die for here.’ One tweet said.

While another said, “The president has had some lows but dont compare him with Mahama. Mahama has been labelled by many as the worst president ever.”
