Akufo-Addo: October 18 is about Ghana, not NPP

Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo says the impending October 18 presidential primary of the New Patriotic Party is about the future of Ghana, and not merely about the selection of an NPP flagbearer to contest the December 2016 election.

Beginning the final phase of his campaign ahead of NPP presidential primary from Kajeji, in the Sene East constituency of the Brong Ahafo Region on Sunday, October 5, Nana Akufo-Addo explained to the NPP delegates that “what is important is ensuring that Ghanaians will have the confidence to give the NPP the opportunity to remove the incompetent NDC administration. That is what is important.”

After October 18, Akufo-Addo urged the delegates to be guided constantly by an uncompromising sense of victory in 2016, as this is the only way to restore Ghana back onto the path of progress and prosperity.

Addressing hundreds of residents of Kajeji, including the 300 polling station executives of the constituency, Nana Addo stated that the NDC has shown, in its tenure of office spanning almost 6 years, that it cannot provide the basic needs of Ghanaians, citing the example of the deplorable road network linking the Sene East and West constituencies.

He recounted how the late President Mills cut the sod, awarded the contract for the construction of the road and the pump and pageantry that characterized the supposed commencement of construction.

However, 3 years down the line, “we haven’t seen anything. An Akufo-Addo government will use less than 3 years to complete this important stretch of road if given the opportunity. We (NPP) are not asking for power to enrich ourselves… we want power to help Ghana.”

“We want to make sure the youth find employment. We want to ensure that education does not become an unbearable burden for parents, to be able to fix your roads for you and to bring prosperity to every Ghanaian,” he said.

In order for these to be achieved, Nana Addo appealed to the gathering to, firstly, vote for him as the flagbearer of the NPP and secondly, help push the NPP into the Jubilee House come January 2017.

The NPP, according to Nana Addo, has never won in the Sene East constituency since the onset of multi-party democracy in the country in 1992, and yet the constituency has seen no marked improvement in their standard of living under the NDC.

“I appeal to you that in 2016, try the NPP and see for yourselves if we can do the job or not. If you vote for us and we are not able to turn around your fortunes in 4 years, simply kick us out,” he emphasized.

In view of this, Nana Akufo-Addo appealed to the delegates of the NPP to vote massively for him, as this will send a clear message to Ghanaians and the ruling NDC government that the NPP is solidly united behind its presidential candidate and ready to ensure a decent standard of living for all Ghanaians.

A distinguishing feature of Nana Akufo-Addo’s campaign all across the country, thus far, has been the thronging of campaign meeting venues of the NPP and its probable candidate by large numbers of youth. A similar scenario panned out at Kwame Danso in the Sene West constituency on Sunday.

Addressing the gathering at Kwame Danso, Nana Akufo-Addo reiterated his appeal to the delegates to vote for him and ensure that he obtains a massive victory on October 18.

He further urged the rank and file of the party to rally behind the winner of the primary, no matter which aspirant they supported in this course of campaigning, as “this has always been the NPP way.”
